What better way to spend World Book Day than a visit to the library. Jade class thoroughly enjoyed their browse this morning and all came away with a good book to read.

In science we have been learning about the properties of materials and how materials change. We have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to do lots of hands-on learning, including investigating the qualities of a wide range of materials, creating and separating mixtures and solutions and thinking about whether changes are reversible or irreversible.

During our topic on Alaska we looked at the Trans-Alaskan pipeline. we found  out  about the Exxon Valdez disaster and recreated an oil spill to explore and investigate the disaster.

Jade Class had a fantastic visit to the V&A museum last week. We explored the properties of different materials in the China gallery, were delighted by the treasures to be found in the jewellery gallery and amazed by the scale and intricacy of the enormous plaster casts of historic buildings. The superb behaviour from all our children made the trip a wonderful day out for everyone involved.

Some of our Year 5 children have participated in the forth plinth for schools competition.  We created totem poles in our art lessons.  We visited City Hall for the awards ceremony.

The awards ceremony took place in the chamber at City Hall. Here the children are seated waiting for the ceremony to start!

The children were really excited to see the huge photograph of their totem poles displayed on the walls going up to the chamber. Ruth was too and gave it a big thumbs up!

Our children receiving their prize from this years judge David Shrigley who’s sculpture is currently on the forth plinth in Trafalgar Square.

The winners had their photograph taken with this year’s judge, David Shrigley and the Deputy Mayor for Culture and the Creative Industries, Justine Simons, OBE.
